Spring is the optimal time to visit as plants are in full bloom and baby ducks are plentiful. The July 4thweekend is often celebrated with a rubber duck race and wind-powered “boat” regatta. Connected to the Grand Canal, a second set of canals appeared south of the originals, apparently built to capitalize on the Kinney’s success. By 1910, realtors Strong & Dickinson and Robert Marsh & Co were selling lots in the new watery Short Line subdivision.

The restaurant had a live band and the food was excellent. Very pleasant stay and great stop between Cape May and Annapolis. This is a good location to stop in preparation to head down the C&D canal, and Delaware River.
Late-night food,
The staff was super friendly and helpful and really went out of their way for us. The restaurant was great and you are a short dinghy ride to town on the other side of the canal. Because it is a fixed dock, it can be tricky getting on and off the boat at low tide but the staff really does go out of their way to make it as easy as possible. No showers, laundry or grocery nearby.

Lots of knocking throughout the night. If you’re looking for a fun spot to grab a bite and drink this is the place. If looking for a quiet night of sleep it’s not the best.
Marina staff is very knowledgeable on currents and did a great job of securing the boat for an overnight stay. Will be using the Marina on my return trip. According to legend and a KCET documentary, Kinney wound up in Los Angeles on his way back from a business trip to Asia and had the best sleep of his life in a local hotel. This convinced him to move west.
These channels are the only ones that remain liquid today. Nice location and great staff. The restaurant was good and reasonably priced. Strong currents can be expected.

Dock hands were great and very helpful. Also a great walking and bike path if you're looking for a place to stretch your legs. A very convenient stop along the way. The person that helped us dock was excellent! Very helpful tie up assistance. The owner and his son were polite and the facility was a perfect stopover.

Very friendly and competent Dock Master, Steve, guided us right into fuel dock and then around to out spot on the bulkhead. Despite passing ships, there was very little rocking from wakes. Restaurant was good and steps from the boat.
Best Time to Visit
Wherever you plan on going next in California, there’s still time to make your road trip more eco-friendly. Most are now bars, cafes, juice joints, tattoo parlors, eateries, and markets. Dockmaster and crew were excellent in meeting all our needs. Location much quieter than Chesapeake Inn.
The dock hands were excellent. Got tied up quickly and efficiently in the current. The onsite restaurant was very good. Live music was enjoyable without being too loud.
